Sep 30-Oct 2   Culture Days  Hundreds of free activities and workshops all over Greater Vancouver:

Oct 1  Heritage Apple Day, Derby Reach Regional Park, 11am-2pm.  “Sample a variety of apples, try your hand at old-fashioned chores and enjoy fiddlers, artists and historians.  Meet at Heritage Area on Allard Cres. north of 96th Ave, 4 km west of Fort Langley.” (Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Fall 2016 Program Guide)

Oct 1 Water’s Edge Day, Maritime Museum and vicinity, 10am-4pm.  Free admission to Maritime Museum; boat tours of English Bay; paddle in kayaks, dragon boats, and traditional Tsleil-Waututh canoes; explore inter-tidal ecosystem, live entertainment, and much more!

Oct 1  Big Draw Vancouver.  Billed as the world’s biggest drawing festival.  Over 40 free drop-in drawing workshops all over Vancouver:

Oct 2  PumpkinFest, West Vancouver Community Centre & Seniors Activity Centre, 10am-3pm.  2121 Marine Drive. Old-fashioned harvest community festival with lots of free family activities including open-air market, pony rides, scavenger hunt, milking a cow, etc!

Oct 2  Fossil Show, Richmond Nature Park, 11 am – 4 pm.  11851 Westminster Hwy. Learn about BC’s fascinating prehistoric past with real fossils displayed by members of The Vancouver Paleontological Society. Has hands-on activities.  By donation.

Oct 2  Ioco Ghost Town Day, noon – 4 pm, Ioco Road and 1st Avenue, Port Moody.

Oct 16  Halloween Parade, 11am, downtown Vancouver.  Ends Halloween Expo.

Oct 22  Cineplex Community Day Free Movies Doors open 8:30 am.  First movie(s) begin 9 am. $2 for concession items until noon; all proceeds go to support Free the Children.

Oct 23  Return of the Salmon, Kanaka Creek Regional Park, 11am-3pm.  “Witness the heroic journey of salmon returning home to spawn in Kanaka Creek.  Displays, games and fisheries experts on-site.  Meet at fish fence located on 240th St, north of Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge.  Info: 604-530-4983” (Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Fall 2016 Program Guide)

Oct 26 – Nov 6  Heart of the City Festival  Numerous free events at various Vancouver venues:

late Oct   All Souls at Mountain View Cemetery, 5455 Fraser St, Vancouver.

Oct 29 Thrill the World Vancouver,  Olympic Village Square, 3pm.  Annual zombie dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.  Because this is a record attempt with the rest of the world, all dancers must pre-register and receive a name tag; dance will start promptly at 3pm.  Dancers please donate $20 for rehearsal lessons and basic zombie makeup.

Oct 29  Halloween Comic Fest  Visit local comic shops for free comics.  Click on Store Locator to find participating stores in your area:

Oct 29  Parade of Lost Souls, Commercial Drive neighbourhood. May be scary for children.  About 10,000 lost souls usually participate in parade whose location details are not revealed until the day before.!parade/cw72
